We left Humbug Marina about noon. Boat started fine as usual, I should not be surprised, the boat is new. As we were leaving the dock I attempted to turn on my charter/plotter (RayMarine A57d) and it is would not come on. I decided to continue to with the trip, the route to the Dunbar & Sullivan destination is safe, and we know it well.
The next problem occured as we left the No Wake area. When we went on plane the trim tabs were not functioning. Not a problem for the short trip. I decided to continue on and check out the circuits when I got to the anchorage.
Once we dropped anchor I decided to start checking out the circuits starting with the battery. I found the problem right away. The "experts" at Wilson Marine did a less then fabulous job of installing the batteries correctly. The house battery was installed outside the alternator charge loop. Basically, the battery was placed in the boat as a stand alone battery and hooked directly to the circuit panel. Of course the battery did eventually die. Should be an easy fix to do it properly. I'm glad that I know a little about electronics, would have been a pain to have had to have the boat hauled for repair.
After discovering the problem and seeing that it was an easy fix, I relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon with my children (Zoe and Dylan), nephews (Todd and Jeremiah), and Zoe's friend Haley.
