We (Mom, Dad, and Russ) left Riverview Wednesday morning around 6:00 am. Heavy fog for the first 1 hour of our trip. The trip to Madison was 420 miles in the car...
Since January 1, 2007 it was:
- 137 miles in the pool
- 3417 miles on the bike
- 811 miles on the run
- 432 hours training
My current training log can be viewed at, http://www.trainingpeaks.com/publicview.asp?p=swimbum
We checked into the Doubletree at about 2:00 PM local time. Unloaded race gear, including two bikes (Cervelo P2C and Specialized Roubaix Pro Custom Build).
After countless trips up and down the elevator with race gear (I brought everything, the weather has been very unpredictable at IMMOO the past couple years), we headed over to the Monona Terrace (Ford Ironman Wisconsin 2007 Race Central).
Monona Terrace is quite a site, the facility was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. I got to see the swim course and the famous helix ramps (which must be negotiated between each transition). We walked around the facility and checked out what we could, the Ironman Production Team was in the process of setting up the event.
After visiting the Terrace we headed out to a local bike shop Williamson Bicycle Works , I needed my gears adjusted on the P2C (or "The Rocket" - as I like to call her). the head technician was awesome - he fit me into the line-up and made the adjustments on the spot - THANK YOU! I also need some knee warmers - the did not have my size (shipment is arriving Thursday), so i bought a set of Pearl Izumi leg warmers.
Late afternoon we went for a stroll down State Street (very cool place, loaded with University of Wisconsin students). After walking for about an hour we ate at Hawks (a Jazz themed bar and grill). I had a summer salad with spinach, grogonzola, walnuts, apples, oranges, and onions topped with a balsamic vinigarette - very good.
Finished the evening with a 41 minute run - 21 minutes at threshold intensity. Overall the run felt good (approximately 5 miles - 3 of the miles were at a 7:25 pace). Right hamstring and calf were a little tight. (Must get ART on Thursday morning).
Returned to the hotel showered, stretched and fell asleep at about 10:10 PM local time.
